YC hiring board reflects a GTM and growth hiring surge
Scanning the YC job board today, the concentration of open roles is heavily weighted toward GTM, growth, and customer success functions. Reflex, Truemetrics, Lago, Great Question, Loops, and several others are all hiring on the revenue and distribution side. Engineering roles exist but are not the dominant pattern in this snapshot.
This is a meaningful shift from the pattern of 12-18 months ago when most YC companies were hiring primarily for engineering. The companies now hiring are past their initial build phase and trying to convert product into revenue. The number of GTM and growth roles relative to engineering suggests a cohort of startups that built during the AI wave and are now trying to grow.
The counterpoint is that several of these listings have been up for weeks or months, so the snapshot may overrepresent roles that are harder to fill rather than roles that are more in demand.
So what?
If you are a founder still in pure build mode, the YC portfolio data suggests your peer group is moving to distribution. The question worth asking is whether you have a repeatable GTM motion yet, because the companies that will define this cohort's outcomes are probably the ones figuring out growth right now, not shipping more features.
