AI Video Is Already an Ad Industry Tool
Seedance 2.5 dropped and the HN thread split cleanly into two camps. One side asked whether the only real use cases are misinformation and spam. The other side, which was more grounded, noted that major brands are already running AI-generated video in actual ad spots, and that this is happening quietly and at scale. The commenter said 'big name companies' without naming them, but the claim landed without much pushback.
This is a meaningful signal. The public discourse around AI video is still focused on deepfakes and synthetic media risks, but the commercial adoption story is already further along. Ad agencies and marketing teams are using these tools in production, and the outputs are apparently good enough that consumers are not noticing or complaining.
The 'no weights, no care' comment on Seedance reflected the open-source crowd's frustration with closed models, but that complaint is secondary to the adoption story. Closed or not, these tools are in active commercial use.
So what?
If you are building in video production, creative tools, or ad tech, AI video is not a future threat, it is a current competitor. The window to build differentiated tooling around AI video workflows, quality control, brand consistency, or compliance is open now but probably not for long. Founders in adjacent markets should be stress-testing their assumptions about how long human-produced video retains its premium.
