Backlash against AI-generated text is hardening into policy

An Ask HN proposes a flag for AI-generated articles. HN's own guidelines now say not to post generated or AI-edited text, but commenters pointed out that detectors are unreliable and voters often can't tell or don't care. One said stigma pushed them out of Lobsters even though they don't use LLMs to write. Libreboot's repo includes an AGENTS.md that spells out an anti-AI stance, and commenters noted people were more interested in that than the UEFI and Chromebook work. In the thread about Cliff Stoll's death rumors, commenters complained that AI slop is rampant on social media because it's the easy way to grow an account.

The Folders programming language got praised as the kind of thing no AI would ever come up with. People are starting to value work for being plainly human.

The pattern: a norm is forming faster than the tools to enforce it, so enforcement turns into suspicion between people.

So what?

If you publish content or run a community, expect audiences to penalize anything that reads as generated. Put a real human voice and specific experience into your marketing and docs, and decide your AI policy openly before someone writes one for you.
