Builders reject slop and reach for craft
On the same day, an Ask HN suggested adding a flag for AI-generated articles, and the 'A Modern Web App in C' post drew the complaint that it is a shame to hand code a project in C and then have AI write the blog post. A comment on the WiFi 7 router SDR hack said simply 'Thanks claude'. The existing guideline says not to post generated or AI-edited text, and commenters point out that detection is unreliable and voting is gameable.
At the same time the craft side is thriving: a ZX Spectrum demoscene intro, a 320 Msps SDR built from a WiFi 7 router, SolidCraft, an open source parametric CAD in Rust with MCP support, and DishwasherBench, which tests whether frontier models can stack a dishwasher in a physics simulation. Readers want to see the human thinking, and they reward projects with a clear point of view.
The tension is that AI is welcomed as a tool inside the project and resented as the voice of the project.
So what?
If you launch on HN, write the post yourself. Readers treat generated prose as a signal about the quality of the work, so it can sink a technically good project. Hand-made detail is a differentiator when everyone else's output looks the same.
