War is now visible in cloud and bot traffic
Yandex Cloud's status page showed a third data center hit, and a Cloudflare traffic chart showed a sudden drop in bot traffic right after the strike on a Yandex datacenter. Commenters noted the obvious caveat that the data may only count Russian-origin traffic. One wry reply said "AI agents" is just a fancy rebrand of "bots" with some intelligence.
The key bit: a data center outage is now a measurable event in the global traffic mix. A big share of web traffic comes from automated systems running in a small number of facilities, so one hit changes the numbers everyone watches. The same fragility shows up in older threads about S3 and Google Cloud outages, and a fresh one about AWS showing $1.7 billion in bogus billing estimates, where people reported hobby accounts with $284 billion bills.
The debate is mostly dark humor and the question of how much of the "AI agent" traffic boom is just bots with better branding.
So what?
If your product depends on a single region or provider, geopolitics is now a dependency. Plan for regional failures and check your billing alerts, because even the provider's own numbers can be wrong. Also treat bot-traffic metrics with suspicion: they can move for reasons that have nothing to do with your business.
